  • Guidance and evidence reviews

This section contains service and practice guidance, evidence reviews and research resources.

    NICE guidance

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) used to have a number of guidance documents related to smoking cessation. These were superseded in 2021 by NICE guideline [NG209] Tobacco: preventing uptake, promoting quitting and treating dependence.

Department of Health and Social Care Guidance

As part of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) brings together expert advice, analysis and evidence with policy development and implementation to shape and drive health improvement and equalities priorities for government. The focus is towards preventing ill health, in particular in the places and communities where there are the most significant disparities.

This section will include information on OHID policy and resources as we build the page. For now, it includes:

    • Local Stop Smoking Services and support: commissioning, delivery and monitoring guidance published in March 2024
